External venetian blinds in Sandhurst

Wide aluminium slats mounted outside the glass. Heat is intercepted before it ever reaches the room.

Aluminium external venetian blinds mounted outside the glass, slats angled against the evening sun

Shading outside the glass beats anything hung inside it — the heat never gets in to be dealt with.

The physics here is not subtle. Once sunlight passes through glass it becomes heat inside the room, and an interior blind can only manage what has already arrived. Shading mounted outside the glass stops the energy at the facade. On a hard north or west Sandhurst elevation, external venetians will outperform anything you can hang on the inside, by a distance.

The slats are wide extruded aluminium, typically 80mm, running in guide rails or on tensioned cables. They raise, lower and tilt, so you keep the daylight and the view while cutting the direct sun — the same trick as an interior venetian, done where it actually counts.

They are motorised as standard, and they carry a wind sensor. That is not an upsell: an exterior blind that cannot retract itself before a highveld gust or a hailstorm is a blind with a short life. On estates with an architectural review, tell us early — slat colour and rail finish usually need to be signed off before installation.

Practical notes

  • 80mm extruded aluminium slats in guide rails or on tensioned cables.
  • Motorised as standard with a wind sensor; sun sensors optional.
  • Powder-coated finishes chosen to satisfy estate architectural guidelines.
  • Best specified during a renovation, when fixings can be planned into the facade.

Where we fit this

External venetians go up on facades right across the area — Sandhurst, Hyde Park, Atholl, Illovo, Dunkeld and Inanda all included.
